The Organic chemistry lab features high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) equipment, which allows for the separation of complex organic mixtures. The orbitrap Fusion mass spectrometer, once coupled to the HPLC unit can perform high mass resolution analyses of low concentration samples, identifying both the parent ions and fragmented ions of the separated mixtures. This analytical expertise is partically suited to the study of organic compounds in complex natural samples, such as meteorites and comets, as well as more traditional applications within proteomics and metabolomics.
